Meet Ben von Hebel
Ben, a skilled parquet artisan for over 35 years, has seamlessly transitioned from crafting classical patterned floors to creating exquisite serving boards. His passion has evolved into a lifelong pursuit, and in retirement, he is fully dedicated to crafting beautiful pieces, bringing him immense satisfaction.
RECLAIMED WOOD
The boards, predominantly (80%) crafted from "reclaimed wood", repurposed old wood, remnants from the parquet business, as well as old table tops, solid floorboards, and stair treads, adds a unique touch to each piece. Given the often limited quantities of these materials, the process of working with leftover materials becomes an engaging puzzle.
GEOMETRIC FORM
Inspiration comes from various sources, including patterned parquet floors, tile layouts, mosaic, fabric design, and geometry. His designs have evolved over the years, and he constantly seeks balance by playing with geometry, wood types, and color, aiming for a harmonious blend between bold geometric patterns and serene-looking planks.
PRECISION CRAFTSMANSHIP
The sawing process is meticulously executed using custom-made jigs on a circular saw machine. Each jig is unique, crafted to perfection, showcasing Ben's distinctive geometric patterns.
THE PERFECT WOOD JOINT
It is a highly labor-intensive process, involving numerous hours in selecting various wood types, dimensions, and crafting molds for proper bonding. The journey commenced a decade ago with end-grain cutting boards, gradually transitioning to long-grain wood, unlocking a broader spectrum of design possibilities.
BOARDS BECAME ART
Originally designed as decorative bread and serving boards, these planks have evolved beyond their functional purpose, now serving as decorative art pieces adorning mantelpieces and walls.
ARTS AND CRAFTS AT ITS BEST
Ben revives the late 19th-century Arts and Crafts movement by crafting handmade, artisanal masterpieces from natural materials, using traditional production methods that are also functional in everyday life
AUTHENTICITY STAMP
Each board displays Ben's signature stamp, a watermark, and a certificate of authenticity. This symbol also serves as Ben's logo, ensuring the authenticity of every masterpiece.
HERITAGE IN PATTERNED FLOORS
Ben, trained as a furniture maker, came into contact with the parquet flooring trade in the early 1980s. He excelled at crafting patterned floors, ranging from classics like Versailles parquet to herringbone designs. Perfectly tailored to the individual dimensions and styles of the room. And also develops specially designed floors in collaboration with a designer.
